Roadhog and Sombra from Overwatch have a simple setup, but there is a catch.
If there is one issue in Overwatch that periodically causes outcry in the forums, it is Roadhog’s hook. It doesn’t work as intended in all cases, and occasionally different latencies can hinder players when they want to get to safety.
With Sombra’s implementation, this madness reaches new heights, as the reach of Roadhog’s chain can extend six times when he has Sombra hooked. She can teleport to supposed safety at the last moment, but then is pulled back to Roadhog through all walls.
The YouTuber meme lord showcases what this looks like in-game in his aptly titled video “WORKING AS INTENDED.”
Blizzard already announced in October that they are preparing some changes for Roadhog’s hook. Internally, they refer to it as “Hook 2.0,” which is expected to fix many issues. Until then, such situations are likely to remain rare, but also amusing.
Cortyn says: Honestly, I find a large part of the complaints about Roadhog ridiculous, and they annoy me. Especially the “How could you hook me around the corner?” drama regularly makes me roll my eyes. When you hook something and then pull, it can also come “around corners.”
On the other hand, I can understand part of the complaints, especially when Roadhog hits someone who is not in the line of sight or even a person behind Roadhog. The example shown with Sombra also needs to be addressed. I am looking forward to “Hook 2.0” and hope that the complaints will be a thing of the past.
