The rework of Symmetra is slowly taking shape. We will tell you what will change about the Overwatch heroine. What are Symmetra’s new skills?
For Blizzard’s hero shooter Overwatch, some changes to existing characters are currently in the works. After Hanzo has finally received his final form in the rework, the overhaul of Symmetra is coming soon. In recent days, the developers have revealed more and more details, so we now have a good impression of how Symmetra will play in the future.
Symmetra’s abilities after the rework
We present to you all the new abilities of Symmetra. The Redditor andygmb has created some visualizations for this, which, however, are not official and only serve for illustration.
Photon Projector
Primary Fire: Photon Laser
- Is now a straight, fairly thick laser that no longer automatically focuses on the target.
- The damage of the laser increases the longer a target is hit. Every 2 seconds, the damage increases in the following steps: 65 / 130 / 195 DPS.
- When the laser is used against a barrier, the weapon regenerates ammunition instead of consuming it.
Secondary Fire: Energy Orb
- Maximum orb charge is reached after 1.0 seconds.
- Projectile speed increased to 30 meters per second.
- Upon contact with an enemy or the environment, the orb now explodes.
- Direct hits deal about 130 damage.
Turret
- The turrets can now be fired from a distance, and they attach to the first surface they reach.
- The maximum number of active turrets and charges has been reduced to 3.
- Turrets now deal more damage, slow down more effectively, and have 30 HP.
Teleporter (replaces Photon Barrier)
- Is now a standard ability (Key E).
- Symmetra can place the exit of the teleporter up to 25 meters away. The entrance appears directly in front of her.
- The teleporter only remains for a short time, but can be used endlessly during this time.
- The hit points of the teleporter have been reduced to 300.
- If either the entrance or the exit of the teleporter is destroyed, the counterpart will also be destroyed.
- Allied constructs can also pass through the teleporter (Torbjörn’s turret, D.Va’s exploding mech, Junkrat’s rip-tire).
New Ultimate: Photon Barrier (Replaces Shield Generator and Teleporter)
- Symmetra creates a photon barrier that has 5000 hit points.
- The barrier can be placed at a distance, and its orientation can be changed before placement.
- The barrier is of infinite size, potentially dividing an entire map.
Please keep in mind that these changes are not necessarily the final version of Symmetra. A lot could still change before the update is released.
By the way, Symmetra fans do not want a rework.
Cortyn says: At least on paper, the changes to Symmetra read well and sound reasonable. Especially with her teleporter, it will be possible to bring tanks like Reinhardt or other immobile characters to higher levels without relying on Mei’s ice wall. This leads to more tactical depth and new combat situations.
Whether her new laser is still as much fun as the “vacuum cleaner” remains to be seen, even if the new mechanic against barriers is particularly effective and sounds promising. The barrier also sounds cool, with a variety of possible uses.
What do you think of the planned changes to Symmetra?
Soon another hero will receive a rework – Torbjörn is on the list!
