Jeff Kaplan answered a lot of Twitter questions about Overwatch. Some of these should not be taken too seriously.
Jeff Kaplan, the Game Director of Overwatch, describes himself as a person with “0 points in charisma” and definitely not suited for the camera. The Overwatch community sees it differently and appreciates Kaplan especially for his natural appearances, which have led to many parodies.
He has now taken the time to answer numerous Twitter questions in a roughly 20-minute video. The video primarily addresses questions that keep coming up – but there are also a few amusing oddities involved.
A common question is why the skill rating in Overwatch is determined not by individual skill but by wins and losses. Kaplan points out that Overwatch is a team game and the most important indicator of whether one has played well is whether one’s team has won or lost. While other factors are also taken into account, the general direction is set by the win or loss.
Reaper souls are just a gameplay element
He also answered the question of what it is – from a story perspective – about the souls that Reaper can collect. Not all aspects of the game are relevant to the lore. Some things exist purely for the sake of gameplay – like Reaper’s souls. Other things in the game exist only for the player experience, such as the possibility that Widowmaker and Tracer are on the same team.
By the way, for lore fans, there is good news. Much more detail about Reaper’s past will be revealed. For example, he was seen in the Christmas comic “Reflections,” staring at a family. It was previously explained that this is “not a random family.”
