Overwatch developers reveal how many players are in each rank. Check if you belong to the average or above it!
The ranking system in Overwatch has apparently been a great success for the developers, as numerous players participate in ranked matches every season. After a series of “Placement Matches”, they are assigned to different ranks – from Bronze to Grandmaster. This rank directly reflects their skill rating, i.e., how good they are at Overwatch.
However, many players wonder: What exactly does my rank actually say? How good am I at Overwatch if I have a “Diamond” rating? Am I above average with Platinum? How many other players are ranked Gold?
Percentage Distribution of Ranks in Overwatch
Jeff Kaplan has now provided an answer to this in the official forum. He published a small graphic that shows how the distribution of players in the individual rank categories looks. The following rank distribution results:
- Bronze: 8%
- Silver: 21%
- Gold: 32%
- Platinum: 25%
- Diamond: 10%
- Master: 3%
- Grandmaster: 1%
This makes it clear that the largest portion of players is classified as “Gold” – nearly a third.
Also interesting is the fact that with “Platinum” you are already well above the average of players and belong to the better 39% – the majority of all players are still rated below this.
What rank have you achieved in Overwatch this season? Are you above average? Or do you even belong to the top 1% and are a Grandmaster in Overwatch?
