The ranked mode of Overwatch has been active for a few weeks. However, Season 1 is slowly coming to an end, as the leaderboard will reset in mid-August. After that, there will be a two-week break before the ranked mode, “Competitive Play”, starts its 2nd season.
Just before the end of the current season, Blizzard has introduced a new system that rewards players who belong to the best of the best. For several days now, players with a high rating receive a notification when they have climbed into the “Top 500”. As the name suggests, only the top 500 players per platform and region achieve this title. There is a distinction between PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, as well as between China, America, Europe, and Asia.
Those who dream of climbing to this rank must have a skill rating of over 60. Only then does one have a chance to be included in the rank of the “Top 500”.
As a special reward, everyone who makes it into the Top 500 during a season will receive an animated spray logo. It is not necessary to hold the position in the Top 500 until the end of the season – a one-time ascension is enough. Those who successfully make the climb will be informed about it through the game interface.
Together with the reset of the skill ratings at the end of a season, the respective “Top 500” will also be reset. Previous matches will have no effect anymore and all players will start over from the beginning.
In the future, the system will be further expanded so that players can call up a list in-game to view the current Top 500 at any time.
