In Overwatch disconnects automatically count as a defeat – even if you return quickly. A patch is in the works.
Statistical defeat despite clear victory
In the new ranked mode of Overwatch, which is now live on both PC and the two consoles, there are ongoing complaints and issues. A particularly frustrating error often occurs when players lose connection during a ranked match (for whatever reasons) and then rejoin the game.
Although they resume the game in a timely manner and then manage to win, they receive a defeat in their statistics. This leads to a lost placement match or a decrease in skill rating.
While it is certainly intended for “rage quitters” who leave a game early to receive a defeat, this should not be the case for honest players who return quickly. Fans are quite upset on Reddit and in the official forum, prompting Jeff Kaplan to issue a statement: A patch is likely to be released this week that will fix these issues.
Since Kaplan speaks of “fixes”, it can be assumed that other problems will also be addressed by the patch. We will report on this as soon as there are concrete details.
Mein-MMO says: An issue that has likely cost many players ranks. One can only hope that the patch will also address other growing pains of the ranked mode. On the other hand, Blizzard has announced that the first season is a test season and that some complications must be expected. However, it is reassuring that patches are being released at such a rapid frequency. Perhaps Mercy will also be treated better in the ranked system.
