Xbox players of Overwatch feel unfairly treated. Those who play their favorite hero receive a bad reputation – with consequences.
Those who play Overwatch on Xbox find it hard to enjoy the game when they favor heroes that the community does not recognize as the best choice. Those who do not play by the “meta” often receive many insults – completely regardless of how well they perform with their chosen hero. However, those playing Blizzard’s hero shooter on Xbox One face an even worse problem.
On Reddit, the player DriftingInTheFoam reports that he hardly has any fun with the game anymore because he enjoys playing heroes that he likes. Since players on Xbox cannot directly report others in Overwatch, teammates use the reputation system of Xbox One for that purpose. Those who play in a multiplayer game can receive a rating from these players afterward. Anyone who does not “dance to the tune” of the current meta quickly earns a reputation of “bad” or even “avoid me”.
This leads to the situation on Xbox One where players are mainly matched with others who also have a bad reputation – usually for very valid reasons.
Furthermore, the reported player is often insulted or even threatened, which is also not conducive to enjoying the game. Like in this example:
The post receives a lot of support on Reddit, and there is hope that Blizzard will decide to withdraw from this rating system with Overwatch.
