Ranked Play is coming, with some small changes
It has been almost exactly a month since the release of Overwatch, and Blizzard is rolling out the first “big” patch. This brings the much-anticipated “Ranked Play,” which is the ranked game mode. We have summarized the most exciting new features of the patch for you.
- The ranked game mode is coming! All players above level 25 can participate in this mode. After completing 10 placement matches, a personal “skill rating” will be determined, based on which players will compete with and against each other.
- The “avoid this player” feature is being removed. Blizzard was not satisfied with it, as many players simply blocked “good” players, resulting in very long wait times for them.
- Various social features have been added to the start and end of a match, making it easier to send friend requests or report toxic players.
- Torbjörn can no longer collect scrap while he is dead (Previously, he could collect the scrap from his own corpse during the death animation).
- As announced, the patch will also bring the golden weapons into the game.
… and another small nerf to Widowmaker
Finally, there is a small change to the sniper Widowmaker. After her body shot damage was already reduced by 20% in the last patch, there is now another change. Her ultimate will now be announced audibly across the whole map. Consequently, the opposing team can now better prepare for it and knows they are being watched through walls.

Those who want can already try the new patch on the test server. However, it is located in America, so there may be quite high latencies. Additionally, only 10,000 players can be active on the test server at the same time – a bit of waiting time is to be expected. Furthermore, the test server is only available for the PC version of the game.
There is not yet a fixed date for the patch, but a release next Wednesday (June 29) seems increasingly likely.
