A new patch for Overwatch has appeared on the PTR. However, some things are suspicious about patch 1.17.
On the PTR, the public test server of Overwatch, a new patch was deployed last night. Update 1.17 offers very little new content, and the patch notes read disappointingly.
The update primarily brings numerous small bug fixes for AI and some interface issues. For example, the frames of players’ portraits are displayed correctly again, and Sombra bots are now able to hack health packs.
BlizzCon lets patch 1.17 grow
However, the community on Reddit is already convinced that patch 1.17 will contain much more than it currently appears. The fans assume that next week at BlizzCon the next hero will be revealed and activated directly on the PTR.
The biggest hint here is the version number 1.17. This suggests a “major” patch. If it were only a hotfix, which the small number of changes and their low significance would imply, it would still fall under patch 1.16.
This would also roughly reflect the plans from last year, as during that time Sombra “hacked her way into BlizzCon” and resolved a long-standing game with the community before being unlocked in the game shortly thereafter.
Soft buff for Winston
However, there is also a small feature that Winston players will be thrilled about. The shield that the scientist can deploy now has a display for the remaining hit points of the barrier. This way, Winston can always see how many of the 600 points are still available and can better time his next jump.
What kind of hero are you hoping for? A new supporter? Or rather a defensive hero?
Until then, you shouldn’t spam too many voicelines – as this can lead to a ban!
