Olympics enter Overwatch . Tomorrow, a new batch of skins, emotes, and other customizations is expected!
The Heroes of Overwatch at the Olympics
Even before the release of the last heroine Ana, Blizzard promised that players can expect new skins and other cosmetics for Overwatch this year. Without much lead time, Blizzard has now teased that new skins are on the way and will probably be available tomorrow, on 03.08.2016, after the maintenance work.
Several fan sites report that they received a box from Blizzard containing some cards showcasing the Overwatch heroes. The special thing about it: they showed the heroes already with new skins that are all thematically associated with the upcoming Olympic Games.
The cards feature Tracer, Zarya, and Lúcio at the Olympic Games, each in a suitable outfit. While Zarya is dedicated to weightlifting (who would expect anything else?), Tracer is likely participating in cross-country skiing.
How do you get the new skins?
Some details about obtaining the new skins are already known. There will be a special event until 22.08., during which loot boxes can either be purchased or earned in-game. However, how exactly one can earn the loot boxes is still unclear. It is possible that they temporarily replace the other loot boxes or can be earned in entirely different ways – for example, after each victory. However, the new boxes are guaranteed to contain at least one item from the new set – such as a skin, a voiceline, and so on. Furthermore, the new items cannot be purchased with credits – presumably, because it is a limited-time event.
