Jeff Kaplan has good news for all Overwatch console players. They can obtain the new skins without having to play HotS.
Currently, there is a cross-promotion in Heroes of the Storm, where players can also unlock skins and other rewards in the hero shooter Overwatch. Especially the “Officer D.Va” skin and the “Oni Genji” skin are worth mentioning here, as they can only be obtained through this cross-promotion.
Overwatch players on PS4 and Xbox One feel neglected here. While it is possible to link console accounts with the Battle.net account for PC and then claim the bonuses, not everyone is happy with that. Some players complain that they only have a PS4 or Xbox One and no gaming PC, and therefore cannot benefit from the new skins.
Officer D.Va on PS4 and Xbox One without Heroes of the Storm
In the official forum, Jeff Kaplan, Game Director of Overwatch, has commented on this issue. He explains that there will certainly be a way in the future – without Heroes of the Storm – to obtain the two skins:
“We understand that there are some players who do not have access to a computer and therefore also not to Heroes of the Storm. Therefore, we plan to add both the “Oni Genji” skin and the “Officer D.Va” skin to the regular loot boxes in the future.”
Kaplan did not specify a timeframe, so several months will likely pass before the skins remain exclusive for a while. He added in his statement:
“Furthermore, I encourage all players with access to a PC to play the Nexus challenge. Heroes of the Storm is a fantastic game and with it, you can unlock the skins before anyone else.”
We reveal which missions you need to complete for the new skins in this post.
