Hints about the next event are already hidden in the code of Overwatch. Golden loot boxes and sound files are causing speculation.
The current Anniversary Event in Overwatch just started a few days ago. However, there are already hints of another event in the game’s code that we can expect soon in Overwatch.
Golden Loot Box and Sound Files
Blizzard is already preparing the next event while players can enjoy the Anniversary-skins and dances . Parts of the new event are already found in the game files of Overwatch and have now been discovered during data mining.
Initially, Reddit user 30847192 noticed a golden loot box in the Overwatch files. In the code, this box is assigned to the category “Event 7” as “Golden Loot”. Visually, it lives up to its name:
Encouraged by this find, the search in the game data continued. During this, special melodies and jingles were discovered, such as this sound:
Two more tracks related to the Numbani theme were also found. It is assumed that these sounds belong to the Summer Games or Lúcioball:
Which event can we expect? Players hope for Lúcioball
In the comments of the Reddit thread, there are many attempts to explain the Golden Loot Box and the sounds. In line with summer, we might soon see the Summer Games return to Overwatch and bring back the game mode “Lúcioball”. The golden box could serve as a reward for players during the Summer Games, replacing the gold medal.
Other users speculate that Overwatch may soon implement a similar loot system as in Blizzard’s Heroes of the Storm. In this case, a golden box would symbolize that the chance of rare items inside is higher than in standard boxes.
