Dataminers have been diligent and found new clues on maps in Overwatch . We’ll reveal where the journey is headed.
For Overwatch, the release of the new map “Horizon Lunar Colony” is just a few days away. Players will then be able to explore a new environment and find out how Winston was raised and what went wrong on the moon that led to the gorilla uprising.
Meanwhile, on Reddit, user Richard Gryffon, who previously found the icon for the Summer Games 2017 in the game data, has unearthed something new. While sifting through the various files and folders of Overwatch, he stumbled upon some suspicious designations that already hint at new maps.
3 new Overwatch maps in 2017
He became suspicious when he found the designation “hlc_cp” – this likely stands for “Horizon Lunar Colony” and the “cp” for “Capture Point” – exactly the map we already know is coming soon.
A second name is “Maunganui” or also “maunganui_es”. This could hint at “Mount Maunganui”. It is a small suburb of the city of Tauranga and is named after a volcano. Since “es” stands for “Escort”, it would make sense to push a payload up the mountain on this map – maybe the volcano has become active again? In this context, a comment also suggests that Roadhog could theoretically be from New Zealand – which adds more reason for the map.
The third file path is “Utopea” or “utopia_c” – a fictional city in India’s future. The place where Symmetra spent a large part of her youth and where the Vishkar Corp. has immense influence. Since we know very little about Vishkar so far and have also learned little about their vision of a “perfect world”, this map could make sense.
Blizzard has announced plans to release at least 3 maps in 2017. The three names would fit perfectly into the plan.
But whether we will really be lighting up the weapons in New Zealand and India soon, we will probably find out in a few weeks.
