Blizzard releases a new teaser for the Overwatch heroine Sombra. Quite hidden, but no chance against the sheer power of the internet.
Sombra likes to play games
In the latest developer update of Overwatch, Jeff Kaplan elaborates on the advantages of the latest patch, introduces Ana, and explains again what the reasoning was behind the limitation of heroes in competitive play. At the end of the 12-minute video, there is a brief flash of just under a second. At first glance, one might think that it is just a visual glitch, but far from it: The developers have implemented new hints.
In just 4 hours, “the internet” researched what this “visual glitch” was about and took some pretty amazing paths. This visual glitch was a barcode. It was scanned and the numbers were then converted into binary code. The binary code was then represented in pixels, which could in turn be converted into a QR code. When this QR code was scanned, you received the following message (translated from Spanish):
“Was that easy? Now that I have your attention, let’s make things a little more difficult.”
Mein-MMO says: Since Sombra is a “shadow”, it is pretty cool to announce this character in such a way and to drop initial hints. Blizzard can definitely be sure that the community will now scrutinize every further content with eagle eyes to bring more details to light. It remains to be seen whether the developers will have some fun with this and mislead fans a few times – we would do that.
