Blizzard has long showcased new skins in Overwatch – in a much older update.
The developers at Blizzard have always made an effort to sprinkle some hints into Overwatch about what new heroes, maps, and skins will be coming to the hero shooter in the future. A few astute players have now discovered that hints for the upcoming “Chinese New Year” event were already hidden in the game. Although “hidden” may be an exaggeration, as the upcoming skins were already announced in the form of spray logos.
For the “Winter Wonderland” event, almost all heroes received new spray logos depicting them as small figures that one could hang on a Christmas tree. But it has only now become truly apparent that some heroes do not wear their usual clothing, as Mei and D.Va, for example, wear traditional Asian clothing (kimonos and yukatas). These garments are now also worn by the heroes in their new skins that will come into the game with the upcoming event.
Players have also discovered hints retroactively in the map “Ecopoint: Antarctica”. There, Winston can be seen, once recognizable as a yeti and another time as a monkey with a long staff – just like Sun Wukong.
If the theories are correct, then we can look forward to a Bavarian skin with lederhosen for Reinhardt – perhaps for Oktoberfest. Pharah is also wearing traditional Egyptian garments on her spray logo – how this can be reconciled with her armor remains to be seen.
The Chinese New Year will presumably be celebrated in Overwatch from January 24 to January 31.
More skins from the new “Year of the Rooster” event were leaked yesterday.
