Overwatch is taking off – new sound files hint at a map on the moon. A wild jungle is also expected.
The data miners are hard at work, searching Overwatch in its latest PTR version for details that hint at new content for Blizzard’s hero shooter. A few days ago, they came across previously unused sound files that suggest new maps and locations.
The first hints suggest that one of the maps will take place in space – presumably on the moon. We remember that Winston originally came from the moon, where he was raised among other genetically altered gorillas. In a previously unused voice line, he says: “Returning to the moon… I don’t know.”
A second and third sound file produce noises that can most likely be categorized into the science fiction genre and would perfectly fit a moon base:

Other sound files cannot be linked to the map and hint at a second map – such as a jungle. Sounds like the hissing of wild animals or the eerie rustling of leaves indicate a wilder environment.
However, it is also possible that there is a synthesis of both sound snippets and we might visit a bio-dome on the moon, where other animal species have also been genetically altered – but that’s just one of many possible theories.
Whether the new maps are “full” maps for Quick Play and Competitive remains to be seen. It is also possible that they are “only” event maps for an upcoming event – after all, in a few weeks Overwatch will celebrate its first birthday.
Some time ago Jeff Kaplan announced that there could be 3 new maps in 2017, as long as there are no unforeseen problems.
