Overwatch gets a new map. Eichenwalde is set in Germany and features an abandoned castle.
Eichenwalde is in Stuttgart
The GamesCom has begun and Blizzard is not taking long, immediately releasing the first hits. A new feature, which will be available to players in September, is the map named “Eichenwalde” which is set near Stuttgart. In a small village that has been taken over by nature, a large medieval knight’s castle stands.
The map will be a hybrid map, meaning: First, a control point must be captured before players have to push a payload (in the form of a battering ram) through the map to break through the castle gate. Players can enter many houses on the map and visit, for example, a watchmaker or a blacksmith to ambush enemies or prevent ambushes. Snipers can position themselves on the battlements, being able to take out enemies from a great distance (and especially with a significant height difference).
The reason for the destruction of this village is obviously the omnic crisis, as many destroyed omnics can be found in the map – including some that look very similar to Bastion’s “Overgrown” skin – could there be a parallel to the upcoming cinematic?
It can be assumed that especially Reinhardt will drop some new lines on the map – after all, it is his homeland and he has his own little throne room where even his neglected armor is displayed on the throne. A knight from past times indeed. Any resemblance to the Lich King is purely coincidental…
When exactly the map will be playable in Overwatch is still questionable. It is only certain that the map is supposed to come in September – however, a specific date is still pending.
