A shop has already listed the loot boxes from the birthday event of Overwatch . This allows us to deduce a start date!
The last event of Overwatch, the “Uprising” has only just finished a few weeks ago, but players are already craving a new event. Meanwhile, more and more hints are surfacing that confirm what most fans have been hoping for over the past few weeks. Overwatch is likely to host an event to celebrate its 1st birthday.
As so often, the latest information came through a leak, or rather an error made by the Xbox online shop. They have prematurely added the new loot boxes to their inventory.
On the trueachievements page, the “Overwatch Anniversary Lootboxes” have already appeared, extracted from the shop. According to the description, the loot boxes contain, as usual, skins, sprays, highlight intros, emotes, victory poses, player icons and voicelines. There are supposed to be more than “100 different anniversary goodies”. How many of those will be skins is not yet known.
Anniversary could start as early as May 16
According to the site’s information, the loot boxes will be available until June 5, 2017. If the anniversary event, like most other events, lasts for 3 weeks, then it would already begin next week on May 16 or 17.
Additionally, the current PTR was taken offline recently. The work on the next patch is therefore completed, which also speaks for a release next week.
However, there is still no final confirmation from Blizzard. At this point, that also seems unnecessary, the hints are quite clear.
Data miners have also already extracted who might receive skins and emotes from the PTR data.
