The latest Overwatch hero Moira has been available to play for some time. Fan reactions have been largely positive.
For just over a week, Overwatch players have been able to try Moira on the PTR. The new character is a support hero at heart, but can also deal solid damage. Unlike other healers (Mercy, Ana, Zenyatta), Moira must stay close to her allies to spray them with her healing beam.
The unique thing about Moira is that she also needs to deal damage if she wants to achieve consistently good healing performance – and this type of playstyle is well received by players. It requires constant rethinking, continual movement, and is always a dance with death, while stealing life from enemies to improve her own healing.
Most players seem to like this quite a bit. Moira is a healer with a high skill cap – meaning there’s a lot of room for improvement by the player over time. To be truly effective, one must demonstrate a clever mix of stealth and daring to be an asset to their own team.
However, many players also have concerns that Moira might become a disadvantage in games with “randoms.” Since Moira is a pretty cool character with her “superlaser”, some fear that many will only play her to deal damage, sending the wrong signal to the team.
Overall, it seems like Moira is exactly what players have wished for: a support character who must actively participate in the fight and is at the front lines. Essentially, Moira is a healing melee fighter – and that’s something Overwatch has been missing.
There is still no official release date for Moira. However, fans hope that she will appear in time for the “Free Weekend” this weekend.
What is your first impression of Moira? Are you looking forward to playing the new hero yourself soon? Or does the creepy scientist leave you completely cold?
Do you already know this little but brilliant trick with Reinhardt?
