Blizzard’s hero shooter Overwatch is our MMO of the month for May and June.
We also cannot and do not want to escape the momentum; Overwatch is our MMO for May – and we are adding June right away. In May, there would have been the related Battleborn as competition. Meanwhile, the DLC ‘Dark Brotherhood’ for The Elder Scrolls Online was released and there was a lot happening in Division. But, let’s be honest: The big phenomenon in early summer 2016 was Overwatch.
The game has thrilled numerous players on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One – including our editors. We want to acknowledge that.
5 Reasons Why Overwatch is Our MMO of the Month
It’s once again a big campfire. In the past, the ZDF show Wetten dass… was called “the campfire of the nation”, the show where grandchildren, sons, dads, and grandmas gathered in front of the couch to watch the funny guy in a silly suit. Overwatch has a similar effect. Everywhere, fans of Diablo 3, WoW, or Starcraft noticed: Oh, my friend list is suddenly active again. And everyone is playing Overwatch. The game has gathered and united friend and acquaintance circles again. It’s a game that people can agree on.
The entry point is so easy. Some may wrinkle their noses at the comic graphics or the large hitboxes, but it is wonderfully easy to find one’s way into Overwatch and to gather first successes: It is a shooter even for non-shooter players. In a pinch, you can get your first successes with Torbjörn, Winston, or Reinhardt, even if your only aiming experience in recent years has been in front of the toilet bowl.

It’s a game where you are not committed to anything. Jump in quickly, jump out quickly – maybe that’s exactly our zeitgeist.
It’s hell of a lot of fun with friends, Those who manage to enter quickly realize how cleverly the game is designed. Although each hero has so few abilities, they synergize surprisingly well.
