A nearly unknown streamer has become the Community Lead for Overwatch in Denmark. The reasons for this are the misconduct of the favorite. However, he suspects a conspiracy theory.
In Denmark, streamer Xperiana has made it to Community Lead for the Overwatch World Cup. She was herself surprised that it was not Dafran, a much larger streamer, who won.
What is the Overwatch World Cup “Community Lead”? Separate from the Overwatch League, there is also the World Championship, the Overwatch World Cup. Here, teams from qualified nations compete against each other for the title of World Champion. To ensure that the team and fans have a “good connection” with each other, a Community Lead is chosen beforehand. This can be well-known YouTubers, streamers, or other individuals who have shown particular dedication in the past.
Small streamer Xperiana wins: The election for the Danish Community Lead was won by streamer Xperiana. This is surprising, as Xperiana is only a relatively “small player”, with just 150 followers on Twitter and nearly 400 followers on Twitch. Dafran, who was also a candidate, is however already a social media heavyweight. With 19,000 Twitter followers and over 200,000 followers on Twitch, the election should have been clear.
Why was Dafran not selected? There are many possible reasons and speculations. Dafran said in a stream that he only wants to be chosen as Community Lead “for the memes” and would indeed receive a ticket to BlizzCon if Denmark goes far enough.
Dafran is probably not favored at Blizzard
Respawn tricks: Additionally, he has already received negative attention in the past for losing matches intentionally on stream. He also sometimes leaves matches and re-enters them later to reduce the respawn time.
The fact that he also uses Pepe the Frog as a profile picture, which is often associated with right-wing sentiments, probably hasn’t helped either.
Dafran is angry, and his community is too: Dafran and his fans are disappointed that he did not win the election. They wonder why he was even allowed to run when he couldn’t win anyway, as Blizzard already had it out for him.
The topic is currently causing a lot of discussions in the Danish Overwatch community. Ultimately, the decision lies with Blizzard, but they have not yet commented on it.
