Overwatch players love the Play of the Games. However, some heroes get this moment more often than others.
Bastion and Mercy have high screentime
Every single match of Overwatch ends with a “Play of the Game” – a game-changing moment. Often, you see particularly devastating multi-kills or mass resurrections, but almost always, one of the ultimate abilities is the trigger. Many players, however, believe that not all characters receive the same treatment when it comes to selecting the Play of the Game. In the official forum, one player raised this issue and asked which characters are likely to be seen most often in the POTG scenes. A response from Jeff Kaplan did not take long to arrive.
The game director of the game explained which characters have received the most of these moments since the last patch (1.3). He stated:
“Quick Play:
1. Bastion
2. Genji
3. Torbjörn
Competitive Play:
1. Mercy
2. McCree
3. Reaper
Mercy is the only one who seems to be getting abnormally many POTGs. We are taking a closer look at her. The rest looks normal in relative comparison.”
This ignited the curiosity of the community, and after knowing the upper spectrum, fans also wanted to know which characters are the least seen. Kaplan provided an answer here as well:
“Ana and Lúcio. Finding cinematic POTGs for these heroes is particularly difficult, but we are discussing it.”
Mein-MMO says: The ranking is hardly surprising. Especially in Quick Play, Bastion is still regarded as the “noob shredder” who often wipes out entire attacks of an unwary team on his own. Mercy players, on the other hand, often wait until all 5 teammates are genuinely dead to secure the “Play of the Game”. Also, the rarity of Ana is hardly surprising, as her “Nanoboost” usually ensures that the boosted player gets the coveted scene and not herself. It remains to be seen which adjustments Blizzard will make there.
