In Overwatch, Mei’s Wasp Waist is causing trouble. Does Blizzard not want Mei to have her pounds?
The heroes of Overwatch are supposed to reflect as many different types as possible – diversity is the motto of the hour. This means not only that as many nations as possible are represented in the game, but that there are also different types. Among the women, not just sex bombs should wield weapons.
The Chinese climatologist Mei, for example, does not match the typical 90-60-90 image (and a little more on top) that women in video games often fulfill. She is a bit chubby. Really just a bit. She looks more like regular women and not like those from television.
The new costume in the “Year of the Rooster” gives her a wasp waist.
Fans do not find this funny at all and are complaining about it on social networks. After all, many Overwatch fans have a more intimate relationship with their favorite heroes, and such things can lead to moderate emotional outbursts.
Sensitive US gaming sites like Kotaku and Polygon immediately sensed cause for outrage and followed up.
Did Blizzard perhaps stray from its noble path, now denying Mei her pounds and making her a woman who more closely matches our beauty ideal?

Upon closer examination of “Mei’s Anatomy,” it turned out that the whole model is broken.
It was no malicious intent from Blizzard. A community manager actually assures that there is a bug behind Mei’s Wasp Waist. Internally, they have already fixed it, and it will go live soon in a patch.
And then everything will be right again and will be where it belongs.
