Overwatch is getting its first balance patch. We have the details of the adjustments for Widowmaker and McCree.
McCree – 30% less damage, Widowmaker less damage on body shots
Tonight (15.06), after the maintenance, Overwatch will receive its first patch that tweaks the balance of the game. As threatened, Blizzard is nerfing the gunslinger McCree and the sexy sniper Widowmaker to weaken both a bit in their dominance. The following changes will go live with the update:
McCree’s “right-click” was too strong, as he could eliminate even bulky tanks like Reinhardt or Roadhog with just one combo. For this reason, the damage of the bullets is reduced from 70 to 45. So he is still a deadly threat to weak characters like Genji or Tracer, but can no longer continuously blow away tanks. As a small compensation, McCree will now start reloading earlier – only 0.3 seconds will pass after the right-click, instead of 0.75 seconds before.
The base damage of Widowmaker’s alternate fire (the sniper shots) is reduced from 15 to 12. A fully charged shot will then only cause 120 damage instead of 150. At the same time, however, her damage for critical hits (headshots/weak points) is increased from 200% to 250% – headshots will still cause 300 damage points. Her ultimate is also slightly nerfed, as the charge time is increased by 10%, so it will be used less frequently. These changes are especially important for Zenyatta and Tracer, who can no longer die from a single body shot from her.
For now, these changes will only go live on PC. PlayStation and Xbox players will have to wait a bit; they will receive the patch at a later date.
