A bug in Lúcioball of Overwatch causes frustration among players. Blizzard now threatens all those who exploit this error with account penalties.
Lúcioball – only without Lúcio
Currently, the first seasonal event is taking place in Overwatch, the Summer Games 2016. These not only brought exclusive skins, emotes, and other cosmetic frills, but also the temporary game mode “Lúcioball”. Here, players can duel in a specially created arena in 3v3 matches – but not with weapons, rather with an oversized soccer ball. As the name of the game mode suggests, only Lúcios face off against each other, whose abilities have been altered so that they can push the ball (and players) across the field.
However, there is also a bug in this mode that occasionally assigns some players a different character. For example, it has happened that suddenly Bastion or Widowmaker were on the field and simply shot down the opposing Lúcios.
Shortly after the bug became known, some players tried to find the cause of this error – and were successful. Thus, it is specifically possible to play Lúcioball with a character other than Lúcio, which mercilessly ruins the fun for the other 5 teammates.
Blizzard has no understanding for exploiting this bug, and Jeff Kaplan has already commented in the forum:
“We apologize for this error. We have tried to fix it several times, but some issues make this difficult. We hope to have a fix for it this week.
In the meantime, we are working with our support team to take action against those who knowingly and repeatedly exploit this bug to play as other heroes than Lúcio.
Please do not exploit this bug. This is a fair warning.”
So it is probably only a matter of time before Blizzard imposes the first account penalties. So stay clean out there and play Lúcioball as it was intended by the developers.
