Reinhardt Wilhelm is a man of the old school. The very old school, as the native Stuttgarter stands for knightly virtues. When Overwatch was founded more than 30 years ago, Reinhardt, who was already a German soldier with a glorious past, did not hesitate for a moment to join this organization – he was one of the first members of the original Overwatch unit. While Reinhardt was the fiercest advocate of Overwatch, he could also be its sharpest critic whenever he felt that Overwatch was straying from its right path. After he was forced into retirement, he feared that his life would no longer have purpose. This was only intensified when Overwatch, which he once loved and had sworn to defend, extinguished under accusations of corruption.
But even now, at the spry age of 61, Reinhardt still puts on his Crusader armor to protect those who cannot defend themselves. A true knight fights until his last breath.
Originally, Jesse McCree actually belonged to the “bad guys” and was part of the Deadlock Gang. During an Overwatch mission near Route 66, he was captured along with other gang members. Overwatch was so impressed by his abilities that they offered him a place in Blackwatch – a secret task force of Overwatch for the “rougher” jobs. Since that was much more tempting than a perpetual stay in prison, McCree accepted the proposal. During this time, he was mainly trained by Gabriel Reyes (Reaper).
As Overwatch started to self-destruct from within, McCree cut off all contact and left Overwatch – he only reappeared when Overwatch had fallen and has since been working as a mercenary. Nevertheless, he is neither ruthless nor cruel – he dedicates himself only to services that he subjects to his own sense of “justice”. A gunslinger with morals, indeed.
As one of the greatest (well… at least mentally) weapons engineers in the world, the Swede Torbjörn Lindholm has been an important member of Overwatch. Many weapon systems that have been able to secure peace in the world are thanks to his craftsmanship.
At the same time, Torbjörn has a great aversion to omnics and all robotic systems that can make decisions independently. For him, machines are exactly one thing: tools that have a task and should not act on their own. Even after the Omnic Crisis, he still sees the “free” omnics as a threat and is just waiting for another issue to arise so he can say: “I told you so!”
Today, Torbjörn strives to find his former weapon systems and ensure that they do not fall into the wrong hands and harm innocents. If that is not possible, he makes sure that the weapons are professionally disassembled.
