Many players are already collecting loot boxes in Overwatch to cash in big soon. However, these fans might be bitterly disappointed…
The loot system in Overwatch is repeatedly a topic for heated discussions and arguments on Reddit and in the official forums. Too often, there are duplicates that cause more frustration than joy when opening some loot boxes. Blizzard has also recognized this and announced some time ago that it would thoroughly revise the loot box system.
The basic plan is that players will receive significantly fewer duplicates from the loot boxes in the future. At the same time, the earning of credits will be slightly increased, so that no one should experience any losses.
Loot is generated upon receiving the box
In supposedly wise foresight, many players have since begun to hoard loot boxes. The reasoning is clear: Those who accumulate several dozen loot boxes now will have many crates after the release of the next patch, in which fewer duplicates can be found.
But that is a mistake.
Community Manager Lylirra has clearly stated in the official forum that loot boxes are subject to a very specific functionality: the loot is generated at the moment of receiving the box.
In plain language, this means that “old loot boxes” will still drop the “old” loot after the release of Patch 1.13 – that is, lots of duplicates.
Anyone hoarding loot boxes now can stop and instead open them immediately – there is no “future gain” to be lost because it does not exist.
Have you already started collecting? Or do you open every loot box right after receiving it anyway?
