Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan is now also a wedding officiant. At least he delivers the wedding ring for a couple from Overwatch.
Jeff Kaplan, the Game Director of Overwatch, takes on a whole lot of tasks at Blizzard. He coordinates not only the development of Overwatch and becomes a target for trolls in the regular Developer Update, but also acts as a love helper for the fans.
So the player Chris reported that he had encountered Dominique in Overwatch nearly two years ago – they both had a mutual Battle.net friend and played many hours of Blizzard’s hero shooter together.
Dominique then moved to Japan and temporarily stopped playing. When she returned, only Chris was still active from her friends list, so they met in their shared Discord. As a spark flew between the two, Chris later visited her. According to his description, it was “love at first sight”.
In California, they found a shared apartment and wanted to start a family, but Chris wanted to organize something special for his engagement.
Since Overwatch had played such a big role in their meeting, Chris had a small box made in the shape of a loot box, into which the ring was to go. Additionally, Chris knew someone at Blizzard and tried to get in touch with Jeff Kaplan, who was supposed to deliver the ring. It took a little while to reach Kaplan, but ultimately the plan succeeded.
Blizzard helps out, delivers the wedding ring
Blizzard took over the organization and arranged for the two to be at a specific time in front of the big orc statue in front of the Blizzard headquarters. Kaplan then “happened” to walk by and explained that his job mainly consisted of walking around the campus and handing out loot boxes before he passed the loot box to Chris.
A few moments later, the two were engaged.
As a special bonus, Blizzard provided a bunch of stuffed animals for the offspring, as well as suitable baby clothes with various hero logos. After all, the next generation of gamers should be comfortable.
Cortyn says: A really cute story that casts Blizzard in a positive light once again and shows that the developers behind the game are not too shy for many things. Especially Jeff Kaplan is likely to have gained some sympathy points with the community again – if that is even possible to increase further.
