As a final farewell, the friends of a deceased player host a very special fireworks display in Overwatch .
At just 36 years old, Willem Den Toom, an avid Overwatch player and employee of the website “Too Much Gaming“, passed away on January 15, 2017. His friends decided to create a video as a final tribute to keep the memory of their much too young departed colleague alive and to pay their last respects.
For this purpose, they gathered with 12 characters each on the Eichenwalde map to aim their weapons at the sun from the bridge and open fire. Together with the music, it not only looks beautiful but is also thought-provoking. Due to the “simple and touching beauty” of the video, it has now received over 200,000 views with many comments expressing their condolences as well.
In the video description it states:
“This is meant as a tribute to a fallen gamer and friend. We decided to hold a weapon salute in Will’s favorite game with his favorite characters (… and Hanzo).
Wherever you are: May the payload always move, the control point be hotly contested, no one leaves the match early, and may there always be a healer on your team. We miss you, big guy. This “Play of the Game” is for you.”
Cortyn says: Even though some comments under the video say that one shouldn’t laugh during a final tribute, I find the video successful. Because how else should you remember a good friend if not with a positive vibe? A beautiful video for a sad case.
