Blizzard is fighting against quitters and cowards. Those who do not participate in Competitive Overwatch risk a permanent ban.
Those who try to earn a better skill rating in Overwatch to receive a lot of Competitive Points at the end of the season often face many obstacles.
Besides that one really annoying Widowmaker who snipes every player right from the spawn, there are mainly 2 groups responsible for reducing the enjoyment of the game: “Leavers” and “Throwers” – players who leave the match early or simply give up and do not even attempt to win the game anymore.
This not only ruins the fun for their own team but also for the opponents – because such an easy victory often feels empty and meaningless.
Players who mess up multiple seasons receive a permanent ban
In the official forum, suggestions were collected on how to deal with such individuals. One suggestion was to group players with regular offenses together. Jeff Kaplan, the Game Director of Overwatch, stated:
“We are increasing the penalties for leaving games and will continue to do so. We are currently working on implementing a new rule that considers how many seasons a player has already been banned and ensures that after a certain point, they are permanently excluded from the Competitive game mode.”
We also want to take action against “Throwers” who intentionally lose matches and “throw”. Here we need the cooperation of the players and rely on them reporting such players. The developers are considering how they can provide better feedback so that a report does not seem to just disappear into nowhere.
Do you often deal with “Leavers” and “Throwers”? Or is this rare in your competitive mode?
Blizzard is making you worse than you are – they artificially lower your skill rating!
