The annoying “Leaver Bug” has finally been fixed. However, not everyone is completely happy with Overwatch . What exactly influences the skill rating?
A bug disappears, confusion remains
Last week, Blizzard released a patch intended to fix one of the most annoying bugs in Overwatch. When players left a game early – whether from their own team or the opposing team – the rating hardly changed. After the patch initially did not fix this issue, a hotfix was issued last Friday. However, some players’ complaints still persist. So did this not work out again?
According to community manager Lylirra, everything is now working as planned, though there is still a bit of a lack of transparency in the rating. Players often do not know exactly why they are rising or falling in rank and what factors influence this.
In the forum, Lylirra stated:
“There are other factors that influence the skill rating. Things like your team’s calculated win probability, individual performance, and win/loss streaks affect how the skill rating is adjusted at the end of a match. These factors exist for a reason (to calculate the skill rating as accurately as possible), but we know it is not always clear why your skill rating is adjusted in the way it is.
In fact, many complaints in this thread seem to stem from confusion rather than existing bugs (we have checked this).
This makes us thoughtful, as we want not only the skill rating to be accurate but also to make obvious sense. The fact that it does not is valuable feedback for us, and we are considering how to improve the feel of the skill rating in future seasons.”
Right under the community manager’s post, there are already numerous complaints and reports that the problem still has not been resolved. Fans are now waiting for a clear statement from Jeff Kaplan – who has remained silent on this topic so far.
