Overwatch will soon distribute free loot boxes when players try out the new game modes.
Although the highlight of Overwatch at BlizzCon was definitely the announcement of Sombra, the developers had plenty of other innovations up their sleeves. For example, there will be a completely new menu item in Overwatch, under which the “Arcade” can be accessed. Here, different modes can be found, such as 1vs1, 3vs3, the old brawl modes, or “Mystery Heroes”. To provide players with additional incentives to regularly check out the Arcade, there is a special reward system.
Every week, 3 free loot boxes can be earned in the Arcade! For each loot box, 3 matches must be won in any Arcade mode to claim the free box. It does not matter which mode is played – players can spend the entire day having duels in 1vs1 or face the pure madness in Brawl.
At a fixed time each week, the progress “resets” and players can complete another 9 matches in the Arcade to snag up to 3 loot boxes again – in addition to the experience points that the games otherwise yield.
Moreover, there is always a free loot box when Blizzard implements a new game mode in the Arcade. So the first victory in “1vs1” or “3vs3” also grants a loot box.
Cortyn says: I really like these changes because most players have spent a maximum of one or two rounds in the weekly “Brawl” before realizing that the mode either isn’t fun or provides so few experience points that it’s not worth it compared to quick play. And… free loot boxes are always a good incentive, right?
