Widowmaker beats up the players of Overwatch and kicks them in the face – and the fans are all for it.
The Winter Wonderland event in Overwatch currently gives players many reasons to spend more time in Blizzard’s hero shooter. Besides the Christmas brawl and numerous new skins, it is especially a new highlight intro that is keeping fans up at night.
In keeping with the Christmas season, couples like to kiss under a sprig of mistletoe – a good omen for a long relationship. Just like that, Widowmaker lures, holding the mistletoe just above her head and playfully smiling at the camera. At least for a brief moment. Then she brings out her hard left and knocks the viewer down, to later press them into the dirt with her boots.
Actually, a punch in the face followed by a high-heeled boot in the face is not a nice experience – but we are here on the Internet and the rule is “There’s a fetish for everything.” So it comes to pass that for many fans of Widowmaker, this highlight intro is probably the greatest Christmas gift they could have received.
On Kotaku, a collection of the most interesting fan reactions has been gathered, and we have some excerpts from it.
“Repost this if Widowmaker’s new intro made you gay.”
“If you think Widowmaker’s new Christmas intro is hot, then you haven’t seen anything yet. In the Easter update, she locks you in a dog house and sprays you with milk.”
From a lore perspective, the highlight intro fits Widowmaker perfectly. After all, she killed her own husband, and her entire persona is heavily based on the principle of “Seduce and then kill” – a bit like a black widow.
