Jeff Kaplan from Overwatch is making sure a high school senior finds a prom date and even threatens with Hanzo changes.
The Game Director of Overwatch, Jeff Kaplan, addressed a single individual in his latest video. A certain “Nate” was asked to take Lucy to the prom. Only then would there be a chance for the hero Hanzo to keep his Scatter Arrow.
What happened? The student Lucy wrote an email to Blizzard asking for help to convince her classmate Nate to take her to the prom. After a bit of email contact with Blizzard, she managed to get Jeff Kaplan involved, who spontaneously made a video to help her with the challenging question of finding a dance partner.
What is shown in the video? Jeff Kaplan appears in front of the large Overwatch logo and starts his video the way he begins many of his “Developer Updates.” However, the text is heavily personalized.
“Hey, Nate. I’m Jeff from the Overwatch team. We were considering removing Hanzo’s Scatter Arrow, but maybe we’ll keep it after all. But only if you decide to take Lucy to the prom – so let us know your decision.”
Ultimately, Kaplan’s words turned out to be empty – the revision of Hanzo still came, even though Lucy and Nate will go to the prom together.
Cortyn says: When it comes to collecting sympathy points as effectively and unobtrusively as possible, Jeff Kaplan is always at the forefront. A pretty cute move with a nice ending – and by the way, a wonderful PR for Blizzard and Overwatch. Because what other shooter brings players together?
