Is a birthday event being prepared for Overwatch ? Data miners have found numerous hints about a new event in the PTR update.
Hard to believe, but Overwatch will soon celebrate its first birthday, as the release date will mark its first anniversary at the end of May.
The data miners have already analyzed the latest patch on the PTR, which mainly brought balance changes. However, the eager fans have found new hints hidden in the game data. There are initial lines of code that indicate an “EVENT_6”.
Moreover, initial hints have been found that each hero in the game will receive 5 or more cosmetic items. In most cases, these will likely be voice lines, spray logos, and similar “fluff”. However, a few heroes will receive more items, fueling speculation for skins, highlight intros, and new emotes.
- Reaper will receive 8 items
- Tracer, Orisa and Sombra will each receive 7 items
- Hanzo, Pharah, Bastion, Symmetra, Genji, Zarya, Soldier: 76, D.Va and Mei will each receive 6 items
- Ana, Torbjörn, Reinhardt, Mercy, Roadhog, McCree, Junkrat, Winston, Widowmaker and Zenyatta will each receive 5 items
This also wonderfully overlaps with previous events, so characters with few skins will now receive new ones. Only Tracer is getting a special treatment – but she is also the beloved cover girl of Overwatch.
The anniversary of Overwatch is on May 24
The timing also seems to wonderfully fit into the speculated plan. Until May 22, the “Nexus Challenge 2.0” will take place in Heroes of the Storm – exactly 2 days later would be the anniversary of Overwatch.
Whether a big event will indeed take place on May 24 remains to be seen.
So far, all of this is still speculation and merely interpreted from some key data by the data miners. It would be surprising if Blizzard lets such a date slip through their fingers – because there would surely be plenty of fancy loot boxes again.
Have you seen the live-action movie about Mercy? Fans really went all out!
