The interface of Overwatch prefers the defenders of a map – at least in some cases Zarya becomes the stealth hero.
When it comes to game balance in Overwatch, fans find every little flaw that can be interpreted in favor of one side or the other. Recently, a small element of the interface has come under player scrutiny on Reddit, which apparently is a significant issue for many players. Specifically, it’s about the control point maps. Here, a graphical element in the interface always indicates which team currently owns the point – blue when allies control the point and red when enemies have taken it over.
However, this display point apparently favors the defenders. As the user amitkilo noted on Reddit, the red color of the control point is often so prominent that enemies can now deliberately hide behind this display. When approaching the point, enemies – if they stand at the right angle – are practically invisible. The following graphic shows how this affects gameplay:
While the transparency of this display can be reduced, very few players actually take advantage of it.
Cortyn says: Wow, you really have to be quite picky and have a very sharp eye to notice such things. Personally, I’ve never noticed it that strongly, but at least with the chosen example, one can understand why it has garnered nearly 25,000 upvotes on Reddit. It can’t be acceptable for a Zarya to mutate into a stealth character here. The simplest solution would probably be to display this interface element as secondary behind enemy characters.
Turning red in Overwatch can also happen differently: For example, on porn sites.
