In life, you have to set priorities – or not? When an urgent Overwatch match calls, even a wedding must take a short pause.
Real life and the harsh realities of gaming can sometimes be difficult to balance. When family calls for dinner, the boss wants an urgent article, or suddenly grandma is ringing on the phone.
But sometimes you just have to let your inner gamer win! As Kotaku reports, it happened to Joonas Alakurtti, better known in Overwatch as Zappis. He was invited to a good friend’s wedding party over the weekend – it’s hard to say no. But on the same evening, an important game took place – the beginning of the Overwatch Contenders tournaments, where a proud $100,000 is at stake.

Zappis did not show much sign of time pressure – first at the ceremony, spent a few hours with the other guests, and then back to his computer to game. However, he took several hours to get into the right “mindset” – otherwise, it’s hard to win games. The plan worked – the first match was won by Zappis and his team.
After the victory, he immediately returned to the wedding. Zappis did not want to miss the party afterward.
However, Zappis also criticizes the Overwatch Contenders league. The schedules are too short notice and have little flexibility. Other eSports tournament providers manage this significantly better.
How would you have acted? Would you have canceled the appointment at a friend’s wedding? Would you have given up your team and thus your chance to win? Or would the whole thing have been too stressful for you?
