Blizzard listens to the community, as at least on the test server of Overwatch the hitboxes have significantly shrunk.
The Head is Where the Head Should Be
Among the many points of criticism that Overwatch has received from hardcore shooter fans, the large hitboxes of the characters have particularly bothered many players. It was possible to take out some characters with headshots even without being able to see the head. This was particularly noticeable with kills executed by Hanzo, as his arrows also have a large hitbox, making aiming comparatively easy.
Apparently, Blizzard has taken the fans’ criticism to heart and significantly reduced the hitboxes on the test server. The YouTuber Bl_Iddy has created a comparison video where he compares Hanzo’s hitboxes directly with the live version together with a friend. The result is sure to satisfy even the biggest critics, as an arrow now seems to hit only when it actually should.
The adjustments have been made to all characters, although in some cases they are more significant than in others. Some players report that Mei’s icicles still have a relatively large hitbox, although improvements have also been made there. In any case, aiming and hitting with all “projectile” characters will become significantly more difficult with the release of the next patch.
There has been no official statement from Blizzard regarding this change, but the number of players wanting an explanation for it is likely limited.
