Blizzard is much further along in developing a new hero for Overwatch than players think. But when will “Number 25” be released?
Orisa has only recently joined the hero roster of Overwatch, but the community is already actively speculating who might be the next character to appear in Blizzard’s hero shooter.
In an interview with International Business Times, Jeff Kaplan, the Game Director of Overwatch, also discussed the development of future heroes – such as “Number 25,” the next candidate after Orisa. When asked if he already knew which hero was coming next, he replied extensively:
“Yes! I know very well who the next hero will be. The next hero is already far along in development. We have reached the point where we create the art [animations, textures, voice] and at the same time conduct a lot of playtests. We know who the hero will be, what abilities they will have, and how they will interact – that’s how far we are already.”
Number 25 will probably not be a defense hero – Will it be Doomfist?
Elsewhere, the question arose whether one could assume that #25 would be a defense hero. After all, that is the only category in which no new hero has yet appeared.
“No, you shouldn’t necessarily assume that.” – A defense hero seems more or less excluded.
Who exactly Number 25 is remains unknown. However, fans are relatively sure, that it can only be the new bearer of the Doomfist. After all, the Doomfist was stolen during the announcement of Orisa and enabled the creation of Orisa in the first place.
If Blizzard sticks to a similar release schedule as before, the next hero will probably not appear for another 2-3 months – so there is still plenty of time for speculation.
