Elmo from Sesame Street plays Overwatch – or at least a player who perfectly imitates him. This leads to many funny encounters.
In online games like Overwatch, you can’t avoid using voice chat at least as a listener. However, besides insults, there are also sometimes really funny encounters. One of them is with an anonymous player who entertains his teammates as “Elmo”. He is quickly gaining popularity.
This player is the focus: Some streamers in the higher ranks of Overwatch keep reporting about a player named “Elmo” who speaks just like that in the voice chat. He is one of the popular characters from Sesame Street – kind-hearted, but often a bit cheeky. Elmo taught children, among other things, the letters of the alphabet.

However, the funniest scenes are when Elmo lets himself go and a curse word or a somewhat double entendre comes out. This usually happens to the amusement of his teammates, who immediately scold Elmo for it and thus keep the conversation going. Elmo always over-exaggerates his apologies – apologies are now possible in Overwatch. Whether all this good mood and laughter affects the gameplay seems to bother no one.
Whenever Elmo appears in the lobby of a well-known streamer, not only does the streamer enjoy it, but the chat also celebrates it appropriately.
Why does “Elmo” do that? In a conversation with the magazine Dexerto, the player revealed: “Elmo loves Overwatch, because even though the community is a bit difficult right now, Elmo believes that it is still a lovable community. And Elmo thinks that the game is a lot of fun.”
To lift the overall mood in the matches he participates in, he embodies Elmo – by the way, this naturally brings a little attention.
Who is behind Elmo? Who exactly the player with the Elmo voice is, is not entirely clear and is quite intentional. However, he has revealed that “Elmo has been playing Overwatch since the beta. Elmo started as a Genji player, but now Elmo is a tank main. Maybe one day Elmo will reveal who he is. For now, Elmo will only say that he is a Grandmaster and Top 500 player for a long time.”
So it wouldn’t be surprising if a bigger streamer, known to the community for a long time, is behind Elmo.
