Those who throw in Overwatch too early ruin the fun for everyone. Blizzard plans to impose stricter penalties.
A hard-earned victory in Overwatch is quite a fine thing. And even a narrow defeat can be enjoyable if everyone involved has put in effort. But as we know, that is not always the case in Overwatch.
Time and again, you encounter some special “experts” in the games, especially in Competitive, who deliberately ruin the game for everyone else and give up from the very start. Often, it’s enough if a teammate picks a character they dislike or if the team does not play “2-2-2” because, in their eyes, any other combination of heroes automatically leads to a defeat.
These throwers, or players who deliberately give up and stop trying, are a real plague.
For several months now, Blizzard has promised to tighten the rules and impose tougher sanctions on players who ruin the fun for everyone in this way. However, because there has been no update on the situation for weeks, people in the official forums believe that the problem is simply being ignored.
But that is not the case.
Jeff Kaplan promises details on harsher penalties soon
In the official forum, Jeff Kaplan, the Game Director of Overwatch, once again emphasized that a post discussing the new rules and sanctions will be published soon. The current penalties are insufficient. Previously, frequently reported players were simply stripped of their chat and voice privileges, but that did not stop many from intentionally giving up.
What penalties there will be is still unknown. However, there has already been encouragement in the discussion beforehand to completely exclude repeat offenders from the ranked game mode.
