The negative attitude towards Overwatch’s character “Hanzo” is even spreading to schools. Is “Hanzo Main” the new “jerk”?
A game that is gradually taking over the world eventually reaches schoolyards as well. Some of you may still remember trading Pokémon cards during the breakfast break. Overwatch is currently arriving at schools more “verbally” than with cards.
A “slur” in Overwatch style, which the teacher couldn’t make sense of, is currently making the rounds on social networks and bringing many laughs.
Trouble for Overwatch insult
If parents play Overwatch, it can very well happen that children pick up one or two words and incorporate them into their vocabulary. @Abrekke83 can probably confirm this, as her daughter got in trouble at school for it.
When a classmate took Abrekke’s daughter’s pencil, she clearly disagreed. In response to the theft, she insulted her classmate with words that were intended to hit hard: She referred to him as “Hanzo Main“. When the parents found out, they could hardly stop laughing.
The teacher didn’t know what “Hanzo Main” meant, but clearly saw it as an insult
A letter from the teacher indicates that while she doesn’t know what “Hanzo Main” means, it was clearly meant as an insult. The note in the tweet was actually the 2nd attempt by the teacher to write down the “misdeed”. Initially, she wrote “Hanso-Main”, but was quickly corrected by the daughter.
For many players in the Overwatch community, the hero Hanzo is considered a character that every beginner can handle. Anyone who declares that Hanzo is their main character, the one they play the most (thus their “Main”), often faces mockery from other players. Therefore, the term “Hanzo Main” is negatively viewed in the community.
Blizzard is pro “Hanzo Mains”, but …
There was also a response to the tweet from the Overwatch Twitter account. We are against insults and for Hanzo mains, but we like how your daughter thinks.
Everyone is allowed to play, even Hanzo! Overwatch fans demand 12 vs 12 deathmatch – Blizzard approves
