The next event in Overwatch could be Halloween. The first game files indicate new skins and voicelines.
While the last test server for Overwatch was primarily focused on testing recent balance changes, dataminers have found some interesting new hints about future events in the game data.
There are plenty of voicelines suggesting that Overwatch will host a Halloween event.
Several characters have an exclamation in the style of “Trick or Treat” – or as we say, “Sweets or Sour”.
Moreover, dataminers have already found an image of Junkrat wearing a costume that suspiciously resembles “Dr. Frankenstein”. This image is likely to be used during a weekly brawl and is no proof of a skin – but is nonetheless a strong hint.
What else the Halloween event could offer is pure speculation. Various skins seem plausible, as a witch skin for Mercy and a Viking skin for Torbjörn seem almost confirmed – after all, in-game material of these costumes already exists, and the two can be admired in a photo.
For example, Genji has a line where he states that he is going as a “cyborg ninja” for Halloween – which suggests that he does not have a Halloween skin but is essentially always in costume.
In the end, there is nothing left to do but wait. The Summer Games came without much announcement and caught players almost completely off guard. This time, while there are some hints, whether Blizzard will deliver a Halloween event this year – we will know in a few weeks.
By the way, there were also some hints about an “Oktoberfest” event in Overwatch, such as the “lederhosen” line from Reinhardt (Link to sound file).
