Are hackers currently flooding the servers of Overwatch? Some players claim to have solid evidence for this.
In online games like Overwatch, there are hackers, which is not new information. However, aimbots have also significantly evolved over the last decades, making them not as easily noticeable as they were a decade ago in CounterStrike 1.6. The YouTuber Chuck Norris has showcased modern cheat technology on his channel and demonstrates how to detect it.
The “current” aimbots only improve aiming if you are already looking somewhat in the direction of the enemy and then gradually adjust with each shot, making it appear as a smooth movement by the player. Furthermore, the latest programs are said to incorporate things like the “On Fire” mechanic and ensure that one is never “superhuman” good and then reveals themselves in a “Play of the Game,” where everyone could see the effect of the cheating software. The video also claims that Blizzard cannot prove this influence.
Why isn’t Blizzard doing anything?
The reason Blizzard does not immediately ban reported players and hackers is simple. Blizzard bans players in large waves because this way, cheat developers cannot determine what exactly has given them away this time. If Blizzard were to only take out individual people, cheat developers could react faster and quickly figure out what they have failed at this time. One should therefore be patient for a few weeks and wait to see if another large ban wave rolls in.
Cortyn says: Despite such videos, one should not start wildly accusing every teammate and opponent of cheating—even if that is already the case in almost every round. I hope that Blizzard is indeed capable of noticing such manipulation, and that we will experience a nice, big ban wave at the start of season 3. That way, we would be rid of the hackers for a while, and Blizzard would benefit greatly from the new Overwatch games that the hackers will have to buy. Also: Do not use cheating software. It makes you a worse person.
