Overwatch won the Game Awards title Game of the Year 2016. Here is a summary of the Game Awards 2016.
Overwatch has outshone its competition and goes home with the title “Game of the Year 2016”. The other nominated games for the title were: Doom, Inside, Titanfall 2, and Uncharted 4. To be eligible for nomination, games had to be released after November 24th of last year and before November 24th of this year.
During the acceptance of the award, Blizzard’s Ray Gresko appeared proud:
“While we are very happy about how the game has been received, we are also proud that this game and the world we have created conveys a message, and its message is about heroism. It is a message about diversity. It is a message about a bright, positive, and hopeful future. And those are all the things that we really believe everyone needs a little bit of right now.”
Overwatch sold over 20 million copies in the first 5 months after release and had more than 8 million active players during the beta. It became the fastest-selling PC title of all time in China.
So far, Overwatch has gone through two seasons and is currently in the third competitive season. Overwatch’s claims to eSports are also very high, as can be seen from the announcement of the Overwatch League . Since release, two new heroes have been added to the game, and surely more are on the way.
