In Overwatch the rumor mill is boiling. Will Blizzard reveal the first DLC heroine before the release?
Sombra – the rumored mother of Pharah?
Overwatch will be released next week with its 21 heroes, but fans are already eagerly stirring in the rumor pot. The occasion for this is the upcoming release of the next Overwatch cinematic in selected cinemas. A teaser image from a French cinema announced that a “new hero” would be introduced.
The cinema took the image offline shortly after and claimed it was a translation error – but it was too late, fan speculation has already begun.
On the NeoGAF page, “Nirolak” has summarized all the bits of information and concludes: The new heroine will be the mysterious “Sombra”, who may be Pharah’s (allegedly deceased) mother.
Several hints support this: Blizzard has already revealed that they are currently testing two new heroes, who are either 2 supporters or a supporter and a tank.
The upcoming video around Soldier: 76 takes place on the map Dorado, which according to Nirolak gives further hints. On a table on the map, you can find files about Soldier: 76 and someone with the codename “Sombra” – making the location the perfect stage for a duel between Soldier: 76 and Sombra. Also, on the map “Route 66” there are several hints about Sombra, as there is a newspaper article mentioning her, as well as a file with the head of a hooded person.
A very clear hint came in the videos surrounding “The Story of Overwatch: The Fall of Titan”, where Blizzard shows some footage from the developers’ offices. In the background, you can see the selection screen of Overwatch – but with a character that is not yet in the game! According to the image, she is a sniper who belongs to the “supporters” of the shooter.
Lastly, the hero Reaper already has a voiceline where he asks: “Where is Sombra when you need her?”, which suggests that Sombra tends to be one of the “more evil” characters in the game – especially since there are only 5 “evil” characters in the game so far (Reaper, Widowmaker, Junkrat, Roadhog, Symmetra).
What is behind these rumors will probably only be revealed with the release of the cinematics in the cinemas.
And before someone gets upset: Blizzard has promised that new heroes, maps, and game modes will be free. So it is not a “cut-out” DLC for which you will be charged again.
