The Overwatch clone that doesn’t want to be a clone is getting another hefty cash injection.
$2,000,000 will still be invested in Legend of Titan
In the past weeks and months, we have reported several times on the Chinese Legend of Titan. Initially, it was denied that it was an independent game, but merely a tech demo that bears a remarkable resemblance to Overwatch. This excuse didn’t really convince back then, and it still doesn’t today. It appears more like a lie when considering the latest statements from the developers.
“Legend of Titan is a free-to-play game, which means there are essential differences in gameplay, game modes, and content when compared to Overwatch. The only similarity we have with Overwatch lies in the fact that we both combine first-person shooters and MOBA elements.
We have so far invested $760,000 and plan to invest another $2,000,000 in this project, without setting a fixed budget limit. Our goal is to make “Legend of Titan” a flagship game, in both web and mobile gaming. It wouldn’t make sense if we just copied Overwatch. All these slanders will collapse upon themselves.”
Clearly, this is not the last time we will hear from Legend of Titan. However, it is still questionable whether such a blatant clone will ever cross China’s borders. Although it probably wouldn’t bother anyone if the game never sees the digital light of day – aside from the sponsors.
