These are the differences between the Overwatch aim modes Dual Zone and Exponential Ramp.
Since the last patch, there are two different aim modes for controller users in Overwatch. The new standard is the Dual Zone mode, which is intended for precise but also fast gameplay. Exponential Ramp is the old standard that has been replaced by it. But what exactly distinguishes these two aiming mechanics?
Dual Zone or Exponential Ramp?
The new Dual Zone mode aims to allow players to aim precisely while also being able to turn quickly. To achieve this, the developers divided the sticks of the controllers into two zones. From the neutral point of the stick (when the stick is in the starting position), the first zone measures about 90% of the environment and the second zone the outer 10%. In the first 90%, you have reduced sensitivity, which, however, has high acceleration. The outer 10% have high sensitivity but relatively low acceleration. With the Dual Zone mode, you can use the first 90% for precise aiming and when you want to turn quickly, pull the stick into the outer 10% of the stick’s area.
The Exponential Ramp is the old standard. Here, the sensitivity increases exponentially the further you move the analog stick towards the outer area. Throughout the analog stick’s range, acceleration is relatively high.

Which mode is best for you is probably a matter of personal preference. In the menu, you can choose which mode you want to use in the aim options.
