In celebration of its anniversary, Overwatch is receiving three new maps. Here is a first impression of the maps.
A major event is just around the corner in Overwatch. Starting May 23, 2017, Blizzard’s hero shooter will officially celebrate its first birthday with a special in-game event. What exactly the “Overwatch Anniversary” will hold for players is largely speculation at this point.
However, Blizzard has announced via Twitter that there will be 3 new maps designed for the arena mode (3v3 and 1v1). Here’s a first look at them in 30 seconds:
Those who closely examine the scenes will see some parallels and familiar places known from cinematics or other maps. It appears that all cases involve “evolved” variants of the standard maps – specifically adapted for arena matches.
Accordingly, the first map seems to be set in Dorado, and one room appears to be Sombra’s main base – at least the numerous symbols, the typical computer, and the purple coloring suggest that it takes place in the hacker’s headquarters.
The second map seems to be located in the outer areas of the German map Eichenwalde near Stuttgart. The architecture of the “ruined castle” leaves little room for other conclusions.
The last map is deeper in the Temple of Anubis and could provide new hints about what exactly the mysterious programs within the temple do.
It has not yet been revealed whether there will also be a “real” new map that will appear in quick match and ranked mode soon. Presumably, Blizzard will keep some secrets until the actual start of the event.
By the way, new emotes are coming to Overwatch soon – especially for Reaper!
