The backstory of Doomfist from Overwatch has dark moments. In the video, we see the villain ruining Tracer’s life.
Yesterday (07.06.2017) Blizzard introduced the latest hero of Overwatch: Doomfist. But besides his abilities and gameplay, there is also plenty of interesting story about the new hero, who is planning nothing less than to embroil the world in a new war.
The story of Doomfist
Akande Ogundimu hails from Nigeria and is the scion of a fairly prestigious family. His legacy is an influential prosthetics technology company, which he helped gain significant influence thanks to his charisma and ambition. In his spare time, he dedicated himself to various martial arts and drew on the most effective techniques to weave them into his own style. He competed in numerous tournaments, always driven to improve himself. For him, only from conflicts can one grow and gain strength – that is his motto.
After the outbreak of the Omnic Crisis, he lost his right arm. Though he could use a prosthetic from his own company, he was excluded from competitions, which left a significant void in his life.
But there was someone who could fill that void in Ogundimu’s life: Akinjide Adeyemi, also known as the second Doomfist, the Wrecker of Numbani.
Together they worked as mercenaries, and Ogundimu found his new purpose – for as a mercenary, he could fully unleash his power and only had to abide by a few rules. Once he had proven himself, Doomfist made Ogundimu a member of the Talon organization.
It didn’t take long for Ogundimu to surpass his mentor Adeyemi and take over his rank – ultimately, he killed Doomfist and took the weapon of the same name. He became the third Doomfist. Together with Talon, he wanted to instigate a conflict that would plunge the entire world into a state of perpetual conflict, for only in this way could progress occur in the human species – through combat.
But before his plan could be enacted, he was overwhelmed by an Overwatch team. How that happened can be seen in his origin video:
Afterward, Ogundimu spent many years in prison waiting for Talon’s plan to bear fruit. Now he is back on the loose and ready to lead humanity into a glorious future together with Talon: progress and development through war.
Cortyn says: Especially the sequence where Tracer’s technology is destroyed, which effectively throws her “out of time” and destabilizes her, I think is very well done. It shows that Winston had to save Tracer at least “a second time” and also explains the flashing hate in our favorite scientist. Generally, Doomfist is a villain who commands respect in his position – that’s something Overwatch really needed.
